8th Annual Buddy Walk Benefitting The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville

The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to announce the 8th Annual Buddy Walk will take place this Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion.  The 1-mile walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the DSAJ and the local chapter’s goal is to raise $150,000.  Brand new this year is the 5K run, which will immediately precede the walk @ 8am.

Alhambra Actors to Join Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for "The Pirates of Penzance"

Actors from the nation’s longest running professional dinner theatre will take the stage with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for a special production of The Pirates of Penzance, set to invade Jacoby Symphony Hall at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on October 1-3. DEP Recognizes 12th Marina in Duval County for Environmental Commitment

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), together with the Clean Boating Partnership formally recognized the City of Jacksonville Metropolitan Park Marina today with the presentation of the Clean Marina plaque and flag. Today marks the first day of National Pollution Prevention Week, a week dedicated to educating and recognizing the importance of stopping pollution at its source. Designation as a Clean Marina exemplifies the commitment of Jacksonville Metropolitan Municipal Marina to protect the environment and prevent pollution in Florida's waterways.


FairDistrictsFlorida Responds to AARP Endorsement

The AARP Florida today announced their endorsement of Amendments 5 and 6, adding one of the most wide-reaching and impactful organizations in the State to the list of supporters of the FairDistricts Amendments. AARP Florida will help educate its nearly 3 million members and 96 chapters across the state that a YES vote on Amendments 5 and 6 will create rules to stop politicians from drawing districts to favor themselves or their political allies. These FairDistricts amendments will require the Tallahassee politicians to make sure they protect voters’ interests rather than their own when they redraw Congressional and legislative districts in 2012 and every ten years thereafter.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The moisture continues to increase at all levels. Meanwhile a cool front will be approaching the area from the north Wednesday and Thursday. So between now and then look for the coverage of t-storms to increase through the week. Also , the second tropical cyclone of the year has formed, but it is headed to the southern Gulf of Mexico not toward us.
