Firehouse Subs Introduces New Life-Saving Pickle Bucket

Renowned for hearty, oversized portions and piping hot subs, Firehouse Subs unveiled their new pickle bucket, showcasing Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The Foundation raises money throughout the restaurant chain to support fire fighters, police and EMS. All 395 restaurants sell their recycled pickle buckets for $2 a piece. Proceeds benefit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which gives back to public safety entities in communities, served by Firehouse Subs.

“After seeing how the sale of pickle buckets saved a life, our suppliers, United Pickle and Century Container, were deeply moved and inspired by the story of Francisco Tuttle.” said Robin Peters, executive director of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “They worked tirelessly on designs that included our logo and even added their creative flair to create the greatest bucket ever! We’re thrilled to introduce the new pickle bucket design which will help us continue to raise awareness of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, and save lives.”

The victim of a sudden heart attack, Francisco Tuttle is alive today because of a donation made by the Public Safety Foundation through pickle buckets sales. The Foundation granted South Carolina’s Mt. Pleasure Fire Department an AutoPulse machine. Shortly after, Tuttle suffered a massive heart attack, and the machine literally brought him back to life. The new pickle buckets describe the work of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and the benefits to communities.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the mission to provide funding, live-saving equipment and educational opportunities to aid first-responders. Through the non-profit 501 (c) (3), Firehouse Subs has given more than $2 million to hometown heroes, including fire and police departments and EMT organizations.

Firehouse Subs, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, is a 395-unit fast-casual restaurant chain. Firehouse Subs offers oversized portions of premium hand-sliced meats and Sargento cheeses, steamed to make the flavors burst, then piled high with fresh produce atop a toasted sub roll. The restaurants reflect the authentic firefighter heritage, as well as the founding family’s 200 years of firefighting service. Firehouse Subs was also named “National Chain” winner of the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Restaurant Neighbor Award for their overall dedication to community service. The 2010 plans for expansion include the Northeast, Central and Southwest regions of the U.S.
