Friends and Family to Fill the St. Johns County Administration Building on February 1, 2011

Art, music, friendship, and family connects the seven artists included in Friends and Family, the St. Johns Cultural Council’s newest Art in Public Spaces exhibit. The work will be on display in the Rotunda Gallery located in the St. Johns County Administration Building starting February 1, 2011.   The artists include James Quine, Joseph and Theresa Segal (husband and wife), Kenneth M. Barrett, Jr., and the Coker family, Walter, Karen, (husband and wife) along with their teenage daughter, Brennan. All of the artists were either born in Florida or are long time residents of the state.

A short opening reception will be held on February 1, 2011 starting at 8:15a.m., just before the  Board of County Commission meeting. The Rotunda Gallery will be filled with the sound of jazz provided by two of the exhibit artists and  House Cats band mates, James Quine and Joseph Segal, along with their friend Matt Emmel.  Light refreshments will also be served. The public is invited and encouraged to attend what promises to be a very special opening.

Artist Kenneth Barrett explained the relationships of the artists with these words, “I first met Jimmy Quine for the first time back in 1978, when I was operating the boats during the restoration of Fort Matanzas National Monument. We both shared a love of photography and have been friends since.  While operating the Carrera Gallery at Flagler College I invited Joe to have a showing of his sculpture there.  Theresa and I shared the classroom at Flagler College for a while. I have known Walter since he graduated at UF, our alumni.”
