Teen Horror Movie:  “The Devil

Tuesday, January 18th @ 2:00 pm - (PG-13) There's no school and it's too cold to hit the beach... We'll have snacks and cozy chairs for you to curl up in and have The Devil scared out of you!  Snacks will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

Bingo for Books for Adults

Saturday, January 22nd @ 2:00 pm - Come to the Anastasia Island Branch Library to play Bingo and win some great books.  All of your favorite authors are up for grabs!  All for FREE!

Early Release Event: Balloon Making for Kids

Wednesday, January 26th @ 2:30-4:00 pm - Come to the library to learn how to make balloon animals and other cool balloon figures!  Impress all your friends with your awesome balloon making skills at their parties.

History of Anastasia Island with Susan Parker

Thursday, January 27th @ 2:00 pm - Join St. Augustine Historical Society Director Susan Parker as she discusses the colorful history of Anastasia Island.  Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.

Little Tykes Movie Event:  “Chill Out Scooby Doo”  

Friday, January 28th @ 10:15 am - (G) Who doesn’t love Scooby Doo?  Bring in your little ones to join Scooby on his latest chilly adventure!  Food and drinks or juicy cups will be permitted during the showing, along with any special blankets or stuffed animals your toddler may want to bring.

Family Movie:  “Nanny McPhee Returns”  

Friday, January 28th @ 3:30 pm - (PG) Nanny McPhee is back!  This time she is here to help a young mother with her children while their father is away at war.  Popcorn and drinks will be generously provided by the Friends of the Library.

Science Fiction Book Club:  “Titan”

Saturday, January 22nd @ 1:00 pm - Come to the inaugural meeting of the Bartram Trail Library Science Fiction Book Club!  We'll be discussing Titan, from Ben Bova's Grand Tour series.  This title was the 2007 winner of the John W. Campbell Memorial Award. It's 2095.  After long months of travel, the gigantic colony ship Goddard has at last made orbit around Saturn, carrying a population of more than ten thousand dissidents, rebels, extremists, and visionaries seeking a new life.  Among Goddard's missions is the study of Titan, which offers the tantalizing possibility that life may exist amid its windswept islands and chilly black seas.  Torn by intrigue, sabotage, and an awesome discovery that could threaten human space exploration, a handful of courageous men and women must fight for the survival of their colony, and for the destiny of the human race.

Computer Class:  Introduction to Word 2003

Thursday, January 27th @ 11:00 am - This is an introduction to Microsoft Word 2003.  Topics covered will include opening, saving, and closing documents; setting margins, changing fonts, and how to use the tool bar.  Pre-registration is required and class size is limited – contact the reference desk at 827-6960 for registration information.

International Affairs Discussion Group

Thursday, January 27th @ 6:30 pm - The International Affairs Discussion Group will hold their first meeting on January 27th, 6:30-7:30 pm, in the quiet reading room of the Bartram Trail Branch Library.  This newly formed adult group will meet once a month to discussion international current events.  Each month a new topic will be chosen for discussion.  Moderated by local college professor, Joseph Warner, this group will provide a means for patrons to conduct their own research and share their finding with other members.

Candy Sushi Making: Kids & Teens

Saturday, January 29th @ 2:00 pm - Learn how to make Japanese "maki" rolls and "nigiri" . . . out of candy!  In Japan, they're made out of rice, fish, and seaweed.  Here, we'll make them out of rice krispie treats, gummy candy, and fruit roll-ups.  Join us for the making of this sweet treat!

Teddy Bear Sleepover Party

Monday, January 18th @ 6:00 pm - Bring your teddy bear or another stuffed friend to our super-sweet Teddy Bear Sleepover Party! We'll tell stories, share fun crafts, have a bedtime snack and tuck our little friends into bed for a sleepover at the library.  Pick up your friend a couple of days later after the sleepover fun is done, along with a special souvenir!  Shhh… teddy bears sleeping...

Care of the Caregiver

Baby Yoga

Saturday, January 22nd @ 10:15 am - Join us for a special kind of yoga for babies and caregivers.  We'll work through gentle poses with our babies to help relieve stress, calm fussy little ones, and bond with our babies.  All babies and their loved ones are welcome for this special sharing time.  Class will be taught by Certified Yoga Instructor (and mom!), Jennifer Jacobson.

Yoga Experience

Spring Clean Your Garden

Monday, January 31st @ 5:00 pm - Winter freezes are almost over, and soon it will be time to prepare your spring garden for planting.  Before you do that, join Keith Fuller from the St. Johns Agricultural Center, and learn ways to cope with damage inflicted on your Florida landscape this winter.  For example, don't be too hasty to prune damaged plants because if another cold-snap should occur, already injured leaves will provide additional protection! Learn loads of other great tips on how to spring clean your landscape at this FREE gardening program.

Family Story Time

Tuesday, January 18th @ 11:00 am - Family story time is aimed at children 16 months – 5 years and their families, though no child will be turned away!  Families with a baby and older siblings are encouraged to come to Family Story Time.

Internet Searching

Thursday, January 20th @2:00 pm - Having trouble finding what you're searching for on the Internet? Learn how to effectively search the Web using directories and search engines. Participants must be familiar with the Internet or have taken Internet Basics. Teens Read with Kids

Teen Gaming Night

Monday, January 24th @ 5:00 pm - For middle and high school youth, ages 11 – 18 ONLY! Relax and have fun with your friends at the library and play our Nintendo Wii, two X-Box 360s (one with the new Kinect), and Playstation 3 (with the new Move) set up on three TVs and a big screen for simultaneous playing!  We have many new games including Little Big Planet 2, Karaoke Revolution: Glee, Just Dance 2, Rock Band 3, James Bond 007, new Playstation 3 Move games, and more! Master Gardner Arbor Day Tree Giveaway

Tuesday, January 18th @ 8:30 am - St. Johns County Master Gardeners will be giving away trees for their annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway.  There will be several varieties of trees to choose from and they will be given away starting at 8:30 am on a first come first served basis until they are gone.

Just For Babies Story Time

Wednesday, January 26th @ 10:15 am - Wednesdays beginning January 5th. This lapsit program is designed for infants through babies who are 15 months old and will include familiar songs, nursery rhymes, and fingerplays.  Because this is a LAPSIT program, families with more than one child and children older than 15 months are invited to join us during our Toddler and Preschool Story Times.

Wednesday, January 26th @ 10:30 am - Wednesdays beginning January 5th. This story time is geared for children ages 15 months - 3 years and their caregivers, but is open to all ages.
