St. Johns County Public Library Announces "Snapshot: A Day in the Life of Florida Libraries"

The St. Johns County Public Library System will be participating in “Snapshot: A Day in the Life of Florida Libraries” on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.  This state-wide project will illustrate the importance of libraries for Florida’s citizens through collection of statistics, stories and photographs. Participating branches throughout the state will host events in hopes of increasing library awareness.

SJCPLS will join libraries across Florida in conducting special events, taking pictures and collecting statistics and customer comments showing how Floridians are utilizing their libraries that day. The Florida Library Association, in partnership with the State Library and Archives of Florida, will be posting the results on a web site where everyone can see these powerful stories. Several other states have already had successful Library Snapshot Days as part of a broader effort organized by the American Library Association.

St. Johns County Library System Director Debra Rhodes-Gibson emphasized the importance of libraries for citizens, students and professionals. “We encourage all of our members to visit this day, to show the rest of the state what a wonderful library community we have here in St. Johns County,” she said. “Library Snapshot Day provides an opportunity to show our leaders and lawmakers what kind of results libraries deliver our communities.”
