Hubbard House Announces Winner in Youth Art Contest

Mariah Blanton, an 8-year-old from Glen St. Mary, Florida, is the grand prize winner in Hubbard House’s first-ever Domestic Violence Awareness Month Youth Art Contest. She will receive a party for 10 at Jungle Quest, an indoor facility for kids that offers rock climbing, zip lines, tree houses and more.

Dr. David Switzer, a Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program Associate and Professor Emeritus at Plymouth State University, is delivering a free lecture entitled “Harvesting the Wind at Sea: Evolution of Sailing Vessels from Ancient Seafaring to the Twentieth Century,” in the Anastasia Gallery at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum today at 7pm.

TWELFTH NIGHT BALL

Relive the old tradition of celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany with a costume ball at St. Augustine's Government House.  Participants must be dressed in 18th century costume of any nation, as well as bring one pot luck dish and wine, if so desired.  Each attendee should also provide his or her own antique plate and eating utensils.  Turkey, ham and punch will be served.  Festivities begin at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $20 per couple or $15 for an individual.  For more information and advance ticket purchase, call 904.794.2507 or email chkdale@comcast.net

Jacksonville Watercolor Society Reception Nov 7

The Jacksonville Watercolor Society proudly presents its Annual Fall Show at the St. Augustine Art Association, 22 Marine St. St. Augustine, Florida starting  November 7 and continuing through November 28, 2010.  Show hours are 12-4 pm Tuesday - Saturday and Sunday 2-5pm.  The members' paintings will be juried by internationally recognized artist, Cheng-Khee Chee.
