World Golf Village IMAX Upgrading to 3D

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- Northeast Florida's IMAX Theater is about to be one of only five in the world with 3D capabilities, and it's a massive project just to get the new equipment in the building.

The IMAX Theater at the World Golf Village has been closed since the beginning of the year in preparation for the changeover.

Part of the work has involved cutting a hole in the side of the building so a new 80-foot screen can get inside.

The screen is large enough that it would cover all of the theater's 300 seats.

It's set to be taken through the hole Friday morning for installation.

In addition to the new screen, the theater will install a new sound system and video projection system, replacing the giant film reels with a digital projector that, according to the World Golf Village, will allow the theater to show more movie, both standard 2D Hollywood releases and 3D IMAX format movies.
