Jaguars Granted 24-hour Extension for Raiders Game

The Jaguars have requested and been granted a 24-hour extension to the NFL blackout deadline, which is 1:00 p.m. today for Sunday’s home game against the Oakland Raiders. The team has until 1:00 p.m. Friday to reach the blackout threshold in order for the game to be televised locally. There are approximately 1,700 tickets remaining to reach the blackout threshold.

Winn-Dixie Water Provides 7 Truckloads of Toys for Marines' Toys for Tots

Seven trucks were loaded with toys at the grocer’s Jacksonville warehouse for the Marines.  The toys were purchased through the sales of specially-packaged bottled water.  Ten cents from every 24-pack of bottled water sold was donated to purchase toys for the Marines.  The 24-packs of bottled water sell for $3.69 and are available in all of the Winn-Dixie’s 485 stores.

MDI founder and Chairman, Richard Willich, was invited to a ceremony and pep rally held in honor of star high school football player, Tony Steward’s selection as a U.S. Army All-American. Steward invited Willich to attend the selection celebration as his VIP guest, honoring Willich for his military service and support of youth and high school sports in the area.

"On July 8th 2010 Shae Lynn was killed by a reckless and alleged under the influence of a controlled substance driver on Wildwood Drive in St. Augustine,Fl . It has been 5 months since her passing and the family still has no answers on to what happened that day. FHP will not return the families phone calls. All they know is that the hold up is the toxicology results. It has been almost been 5 months and Shae's family and friends are still grieving and wanting answers. The family can not move on cause they have no closure.

Second Harvest North Florida has an opportunity to make a big dent in that need by participating in the “Fighting Hunger Together” program that Walmart is sponsoring. If Jacksonville finishes in the top 6, we will receive significant dollars, potentially $1 million, to gather and distribute more food. It will also move us closer to realizing our goal to end hunger in north Florida in the next five years!

World AIDS Week will be observed in Northeast Florida from Nov. 29 - Dec. 4

The Northeast Florida World AIDS Week Committee has activities planned throughout the week in its continued quest to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in Jacksonville and surrounding areas. Education Days, a quilt display, a Community Awards ceremony, and more will take place during the week.
