Duval County Woman Arrested for Burglary in St. Johns

A 63-year old Duval County woman was arrested on charges of burglary to an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft and grand theft auto late Monday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Victoria Friedman, was released Tuesday afternoon after posting $15,000 bond.

Detectives began the investigation following a reported burglary to a home in the 1100 block of Hideaway Dr. North, that occurred between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 12. Reported stolen were several antiques to include jewelry and civil war documents along with antique trains, a flat screen
television and an antique clock. Some of the items were described as priceless and the total value stolen was over $20,000.

Witnesses reported observing a Kia Soul at the victim’s home during the time frame of the burglary. Detectives were able to identify a matching vehicle that the suspect had allegedly leased on the day of the crime. She was then questioned on Monday at her home and admitted to the burglary. At the time she allegedly told detectives that she had planned the crime in order to settle a debt owed by her to loan sharks.

She claimed that she rented the vehicle and allowed two other suspects the use of the vehicle for the alleged burglary. It was later learned that the suspect had rented a storage unit and a majority of the alleged stolen property was located and returned to the victim.

Detectives are seeking a second individual believed to have assisted the suspect in the burglary. Anyone who may have information regarding this suspect, who has been a
caregiver for many years, and other possible crimes is asked to contact Detective Gene Tolbert at (904) 209-3985. You can also remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of N.E. Florida at 1-(888) 277-TIPS. The investigation is continuing.
