St. Johns County Offers Law Handbook for Teens

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A year-long project aimed at helping youngsters stay out of trouble has culminated with a new handbook.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the State Attorney's Office, St. Johns County School Board and the PACT Prevention Coalition worked together to create the "Know the Law" Handbook for middle and high school students in the county.

The four agencies contributed experts who spent the past year researching and writing to come up with relevant, important information.

They want students to take the handbook home and discuss it with their parents.

Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, parties, weapons, cyber crimes, gangs and even driving are covered in the handbook, which explores the consequences of poor choices and actions.

The group has a unified statement for young people: "In order to become a productive, successful part of your community you must understand that your actions now will have a great impact on your future. Your friends and family are NOT responsible for your behavior, that responsibility is yours alone."

The handbook is available here.
