Freedom Boat Club plans special day for Daniel Kids

JACKSONVILLE – A group of young adults from the Daniel Foundation will get their day in sun Friday, August 23rd. That is, as long as the sun cooperates.

The local franchise of the Freedom Boat Club, based at Julington Creek Marina, is planning a special day of fun and activities for eight young people from the Daniel Foundation. This will be the fourth time in the past two years Daniel and Freedom have been pairing up to award these kids. In the past there have been as many as 20 students that were awarded with a boat ride. This year Daniel wanted to make the day a little longer, more special, and treat an extraordinary group of students.

Coast Guard Auxiliary offers boating safety classes

Spring is just around the corner and now is a great time to refresh your boating skills by taking a boating safety class. Florida law requires boat and personal watercraft operators born on or after January 1, 1988 to pass an approved boating safety course and carry photo identification along with their Florida Boating Safety Education Identification Card if they operate any boat or PWC with a 10 hp motor or larger. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary specializes in providing one day boating safety education classes for preparation and testing to obtain your Florida Boating Education Identification Card. You will learn skills from experienced boaters who have a passion for boating safely. Classes are conveniently held in various locations in the Jacksonville area including Mandarin, Arlington, Jacksonville Beach, Fernandina Beach, Green Cove Springs and St. Augustine. Upcoming dates include February 11, 18, and 25.
