Boating is Fun.... We'll show you how. | Events
In April of 2009 the headline read, “5 killed, 7 injured in St. Augustine, Florida Boat Crash”. The United States Power Squadron (USPS) of Jacksonville is dedicated to help boaters, so that they will never be in the headlines like that- their goal, simple- be safe. On Jan 24th and 29th The USPS will have their Practical on the Water Training Class held at Lambs Yacht Center.
“This is a great opportunity for boaters to learn new skills, or reinforce what they already know”, said Bud Newton event director. The class will include, docking, anchoring, high speed turns, line handling, avoiding collisions; all dedicated to safe boat handling. The class will be a blend of on-the-water skills practice, and classroom instruction. All designed so people can become more confident boaters. Bud said further, “Our Motto….. Boating is Fun, we’ll show you how!”
The Freedom Boat Club, founded in 1989, which serves as an alternative to boat ownership is very supportive in boat safety. Every day Freedom Boat Club (FBC) has members on boats. “With over 5000 members in our 19 locations across Florida alone, having our members understand the skills of being an accomplished boater, are high on our priority list”, said Lisa Almeida, owner of the Freedom Boat Club. This is why The FBC supports this event, and is even loaning one of their boats for the training.
