JMA hosts Fort George Island Raft Up on May 28

If you have the boat, the Jacksonville Marine Association has the destination.

The JMA (BoatJax.com)  and the Tourist Development Council has announced a fun, new opportunity for recreational boaters --  the Fort George Island Raft Up -- Saturday, May 28. The family-friendly event will include live music, a quiet spot to relax on the beach, and the opportunity to make new friends.

“Our goal is to promote family activities and boating on the river,” said Lisa Almeida, a member of the JMA and local manager of Freedom Boat Club. “With all the boaters participation we can make this event the most sought after event on the waters of Fort George,” stated Marcus Wade, Manager of Fort George Island Marina  “We are inviting people to bring their dogs, their beach toys and accessories, listen to great music, and meet others members of the local boating community.”

Live music will be performed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by local favorite, the Big Jeff Band.

Other cities across Florida host similar raft up events, but this is a first for Jacksonville.

“Few beaches anywhere can match the beauty of Fort George Island,” said Almeida. “It is the perfect place to bring the family. It is a quiet and private protected area. This is going to be a great day for boaters.”
