St. Augustine to Host County's Largest Veterans Day Celebration

St. Augustine's annual Veterans Day celebration and ceremony - the largest event of its kind in St. Johns County - will be held in St. Augustine, Nov. 11.

The celebration begins with displays opening at 9:00am and a traditional military ceremony including a "Massing of the Colors," at the Special Events Field Thursday Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.

State Parks Waive Entrance Fees for Veterans Day

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service will offer free day-use entrance to Florida State Parks on Thursday, November 11, 2010.

In honor of the services and sacrifices of United States veterans, their families and communities, day-use entrance to all of Florida State Parks will be waived to park visitors on Veterans Day. This offer does not include Skyway Fishing Pier State Park.

674 Children in Need of Holiday Gifts

Episcopal Children’s Services is launching its annual Holiday Outreach program this week. With the help of the community, the program will provide 674 children and families in Clay, Baker, Bradford, Union, Nassau and Duval counties with Holiday gifts.

Beards for Babies

For the next several months you may see some deputy sheriff’s sporting stubble on their faces. This isn’t a new fad, but a fundraiser within the Sheriff’s Office for the March of Dimes. For the fourth year in a row, St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar has allowed employees to sport beards with a donation of $50 each to the March of Dimes. The fundraiser will go through 31 January.

"Harvesting the Wind" a Lecture at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum

 

Dr. David Switzer, a Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program Associate and Professor Emeritus at Plymouth State University, is delivering a free lecture entitled “Harvesting the Wind at Sea: Evolution of Sailing Vessels from Ancient Seafaring to the Twentieth Century,” in the Anastasia Gallery at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum today at 7pm.

St. Johns Town Center Holiday Spectacular Saturday, November 20th

Holiday shoppers and families are invited to make merry with a full day of free festivities at St. Johns Town Center, culminating with a spectacular tree lighting and fireworks show. Retailers will also offer great holiday shopping opportunities, in-store promotions and specials.

NW St. Johns County Veterans' Celebration November 10th!

NW St. Johns County Veterans' Celebration will be held at Veterans' Park on Veterans' Expressway Wednesday, November 10, beginning at 5:30 PM. 

Festivities will include military equipment, Bartram Trail Air Force ROTC drills, entertainment by Fruit Cove Middle School Jazz Band and Liberty Pines Chorus, as well as a short ceremony honoring our local veterans.

After the ceremony, entertainment will be provided by a local band, Skin n Bonz.  Bartram Trail and CR210 Rotary Clubs will supply complementary food and drink.  Everyone should come out to honor our veterans and share some great family fun time. ALL local veterans encouraged to participate. Your community would like to say thank you for your service.
