ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A drug deal ends in alleged attempted armed robbery and shooting.
According to a St. Johns County press release, a 19-year-old Duval County man reported the incident Monday night. The incident occurred at Moe's Restaurant in Julington Creek.
The victim drove himself to Baptist South Hospital after the alleged shooting. The report said the victim was then taken by air ambulance to UF Health Hospital for additional treatment.
At the hospital, the victim told a JSO officer that while waiting for the drug deal a man jumped into the backseat of his car with a gun.
The victim said that he attempted to grab the gun and during the struggle it went off. According to the release, the victim was shot in the chest and the suspect then fled from the scene.
After receiving surgery, the victim is in stable condition.
Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Robbery/Homicide Unit are continuing the investigation.
