JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 42-year-old man who was working at a fruit stand on the Southside has died after a car hit him and demolished the fruit stand.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Samir Masil was working at the stand at the corner of Powers Avenue and Toledo Road when a BMW driven by 18-year-old Amir Osmanovic spun out of control.
Investigators believe the BMW, which was headed south on Powers, left the road, hit a pole and began to spin, eventually hitting three people and a parked vehicle, in addition to the stand where Masil was working.
Masil was taken to the hospital, where he died.
According to investigators, a 7-year-old boy also hit by the car was taken to the hospital as well. He has not been identified, but at last report was listed in critical but stable condition.
According to a witness, Masil "was still in his red chair and the car pinned the man in the chair between the car that caused the accident and the car that was parked behind him."
Osmanovic was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.
