Students and Volunteers Fight to Keep JROTC Program
News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A grass roots effort is underway to keep a student program in Duval County Schools.

Students and volunteers held a car wash to raise money to help fund J-R-O-T-C Saturday.

The event went from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Taco Bell on Beach Boulevard.

Today's event was just one of many students who don't want to lose JROTC are planning.

It was a funding issue for these four [schools]," says Nova Taylor who participated in the fundraiser.

"They didn't have enough cadets involved in the program in the schools so they weren't able to justify keeping instructors for it. We're trying to make up the difference in the instructors salaries so we can keep them.

Students and those who support JROTC hope to hear an update about the budget and the program this week when the school board and principals meet.
