St. Johns County Education Foundation Announces Newest Tutoring Program Coordinator

This past December, the St. Johns County Education Foundation welcomed Brandee Anderson as the Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Program Coordinator. The SES is a tutoring program that provides free tutoring in reading and math to struggling students in the county.

St. Johns County Education Foundation Honors Mentors at Luncheon

The St. Johns County Education Foundation (SJCEF) honored the community’s mentors at the Annual Take Stock in Children Mentor Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday, January 12.  SJCEF board members and staff and the St. Johns County district staff joined these mentors to pay tribute to the importance of programs such as these.

Baseball & Softball Registrations Are Open

Spring Registration is currently open for Baseball and softball tryouts. Tryouts will be held on January 24, 25 & 27 immediately after school at the school fields. Those players selected for the team will be required submit a physical and register to pay-to-play. After tryouts and team selection is completed, players will be contacted by their school coach or sports director with more information about the SJMSAA "Pay-to-Play" program, practices, and other team information. If selected, the cost to the athlete is $225  for baseball and $200 for softball and includes jersey & hat, transportation, equipment, officials, ambulances, field maintenance, first aid and training supplies.

Chocolate and Beyond Gala, A Sweet Way to Support Volunteers

The 18th Annual RSVP Gala – Chocolate and Beyond will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM at the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club in St. Augustine.  A parade of savory delicacies including chocolate, desserts and other fare will be available from many of the area’s finest restaurants and specialty shops.  A live and silent auction, entertainment, raffle and contests will also take place during the evening.

High School Students: Time to Enter Manatee Art Contest

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites high school art students across the state to participate in a contest to create a piece of manatee artwork that will be used on the 2011-2012 manatee decal.

Students in grades 9-12 in Florida should coordinate with their school’s art teacher to submit the artwork, because each school may submit no more than five entries. Home-schooled students also are eligible to enter the contest. Contest details and forms are available online at MyFWC.com/Manatee.

Special Performance of Gypsy to Fund Arts

A special performance of Gypsy will take place at the Limelight Theater at 2p.m. on March 6, 2011. This matinee performance of the musical by Arthur Laurents, Stephen Sondheim, and Jule Styne, will be a part of the 2011 Festival of Muses which celebrates March as Women’s History Month. Tickets are $25 each and may be reserved by contacting Anne Kraft at 794-7455. All tickets will be open seating.

Bartram Trail High School Celebrates Literacy Week January 24 - 28th

Bartram Trail High School's celebration of national Celebrate Literacy week is January 24 - 28th.  The goal is to encourage and promote reading to our young people are high priorities at both Bartram and the St. Johns County School District. Business Partners, community members, and local authors will be reading to students on either Monday, January 24th or Tuesday, January 25th.
