Expect Congested Waterways July Fourth Weekend

Nearly 1 million recreational vessels are registered in Florida, and thousands more are brought in by tourists each year to enjoy the state’s boating opportunities. Many thousands of these boats will be cruising the St. Johns River, the Intracoastal Waterway and the many popular lakes and rivers in the northeast and central part of the state while celebrating the July Fourth weekend.

Unfortunately, these busy holiday weekends too often end tragically for some boaters. And these tragedies are usually completely preventable.

Passengers Stuck on Plane Returning From Baltimore

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Passengers on flight 1007 from Baltimore have deplaned after being stuck at the gate for about 25 minutes.

The reason for the delay is due to the front door to the plane becoming stuck.

First Coast News Managing Editor Casey Clark was on that flight and snapped these pictures for us of the commotion on the plane.

Ground crews with Southwest Airlines brought an open stairwell to the rear of the plane for passengers to deplane through the back exit.

At this time everyone has deplaned safely.

St Johns County Sheriffs Office Announces Fleet Savings

At a recent St. Johns County Commission meeting, Sheriff David Shoar discussed with Commissioners a new plan to extend the life of patrol cars for an additional three
years at a much lower cost than purchasing new vehicles.

OMCC Participates in Roadcheck 2011

The Florida Department of Transportation Office of Motor Carrier Compliance will take part in Roadcheck 2011, an international activity that will take place June 7-9 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office will join local and national law enforcement officers and highway safety advocates all across the country for the 2011 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, May 23-June 5.

Serious Crash On US-1 Causes Major Delays

St. Johns County, Fla. -- All southbound lanes of US-1 were blocked near Race Track Road for nearly 45 minutes following a serious accident with injuries.

Right now, the right lane remains blocked and traffic is very slow moving in the area. Florida Highway Patrol is still on the scene investigating the cause.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m. when a truck and a car somehow collided. The drivers were transported to the hospital.

With the right lane still blocked, this is causing some serious delays for southbound drivers on US-1.

I-95 south is the best alternate route to avoid the area.
